Jane's wedding date was 10.10.10 and her choice of colors was

spot on for fall time. She chose a mixture of peach and terra cotta

roses, green hydragea, brown hypericum berries, leucadendron,

and orange spray roses. The outcome was just beautiful as these

gorgeous pictures she shared with us reflect.

the orchid show at the

new york botanical garden

was spectacular...

the line to get in was crazy...but well worth

the wait!the building was breathtaking...even the gift shop gave us inspiration...

needless to say...we came home and started talking about plants.

house plants, grasses, bulbs, annuals, perennials. we are always

adding new plants and flowers to the shop.

this week being easter week...we have a large assortment of

anemone: the name comes from the greek language and

roughly translates to "wind flower"

oh the anemone...love, love, love!

and to think that they grow wild in our country.

however, these came from our distributor.

why do i love the anemone so? because each petal is different, some of
the stems bend and some stand up straight, they aren't perfect...
therefore they seem "natural" to me. a perfect flower to put
into a design...or as i did here in our adorable pewter bud vases
which are all under $10 each.

these vases are perfect for tulips, daffies, magnolia branches, curly willow, or
any other sweet spring surprise you may find in your gardens!

"greening" your home...

we love plants here at fns...

we continue to expand our plant department as it has become so popular among our customers. i thought it would be fun to post some of the plants from our shop in their new homes.

this is a victoria bird's nest fern...the owner put it in a trophy that she spray painted black...FUN!

i personally love topiaries...topiaries of herbs, of citrus trees...this is a small topiary

planted in a galvanized container. very similar to boxwood in leaf shape...we also

can get them in larger and with variegated leaves...which are stunning.

next are the rex begonias...which are coveted by all those that love foliage...the leaves are so spectacular that they barely even take notice of the petite bloom...

and then...one of my new favorites...cyclamen. this is mine at home that is just starting to re bloom...i have been willing it for weeks, it finally paid off. Now there are about a half dozen blooms and they are so encouraging...as if they are telling me that spring is just around the corner...we shall see.

Every year the East Granby Public Library holds a juried art show.

This year it runs from January 30th to March 6th during

regular hours of operation.

This is the third year that Flowers 'n Such has donated flowers for the opening reception. Rachel, our floral designer created a winter wonderland. She used a birch container to show off esperance roses, bells of ireland, willow, seed eucalyptus, lucadendron and spanish moss.

Robin's bridal bouquet was just gorgeous...i loved her palette.

She chose white vendela roses, green hydragea, queen annes lace,
green hypericum berries, mini pitt and wax flower...

The bout complimented the bridal bouquet. Very elegant and

understated with mini pitt, wax flower greens and green hypericum...

I loved it!

i put together some fresh cuts and just couldn't resist...i had to take some pictures...the colors and textures are beautiful...

i used super green roses, yellow jenny spray roses, sea thistle, daisies, hypericum berries, salal and agonis foliage. the cooler is full of gorgeous shades of fall. we are carrying these organic roses right now called cinnamon...they are breath-taking...brighter in color then the actual spice but subtle and laced with green on the tip.

Glimpses of Fall

I can hardly believe Fall is upon us...AGAIN! My absolute favorite time of year. It never seems to last long enough but the days are gloriously perfect. Cool dewy mornings, afternoons saturated in sun and each day ending with a crispness in the air with promises of what is to come...

We just received Calla Lilies in from Holland. A stunning array of Autumn colors that would look fabulous with foliage from the garden...fern, hosta, forsythia leaves and maybe a rose or two from the shop.

Born and raised in western Massachusetts and exposed to the greater New England environs after working as a landscape architect (site planner) for almost 50 years, I've become personally aware of much that the natural landscape of western New England offers.

In my final painting process, I work in what is typically called a representational or traditional style. I usually do a series of preliminary studies to set values and composition, some at post card size, and eventually at full painting size. The final full size image is then transferred to watercolor paper for the actual painting process. My color palette is dominated by earth tones with selective introduction of complementary colors.

My subjects are primarily "landscapes" utilizing the changing seasons, the land, vegetation, sky, or water to frame and support the chosen man-made element(s). I selectively may introduce buildings, bridges, boats, stone-walls, etc. to develop the impact area (focal point of the composition) to draw the viewer's eye in to the developed painting. I strive to create a mood and tell a short story with each painting so that each has a legitimate reason for being.

Prom Fling

The prom has come and gone...this year was our best yet!

Rachel, our floral designer has a real talent for creating gorgeous corsages and boutonnieres. Starting with a wristband, she then attaches Italian Ruscus, a beautiful green that acts as a background for the flowers. After attaching the greens, Rachel designs a floret using bullion. Bullion is our newest accessory to corsage work. It is a fun pliable wire that comes in all different colors. Here at Flowers 'n Such we are partial to black, silver and gold. After that is fastened, the flowers come next. This year we used orchids, roses, delphinium, hydrangea along with other filler flowers. Prom is always an exciting event. I like to see all the different dresses and colors that are popular for that particular year.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day has come and gone.
The store leading up to the holiday is full of gorgeous plants and gifts...the cooler is packed with color and texture. Bouquets line the shelves, deliveries are mapped out, and the full staff is on!

And within what seems to be minutes after we close the shop, the flowers are gone, the plants have found new homes and the shop looks empty. This year, we decided to close for the actual day and celebrated at home with family, food and flowers!
